Join the McGill Doctors Orchestra for a symphony Mother's Day concert conducted by Maestra Lori Antounian honoring the Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC)! This unforgettable concert featuring Beethoven`s iconic 5th Symphony and horn works interpreted by Angelica Tombs celebrates the dedication of the MUHC’s cardiology team, who provide life-saving care to patients facing critical heart conditions.
Dr. Patrick Lawler, cardiologist and Head of the CICU, will give a short TED-style talk at the concert highlighting the unit’s state-of-the-art care for patients with critical cardiac conditions.

Dr. Patrick Lawler
Cardiologist and CICU Director
Dr. Patrick Lawler is a cardiologist and Director of the Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). A recipient of the MUHC Foundation’s prestigious Rising Star Award, he joins from Toronto’s Peter Munk Cardiac Centre. Previously trained in medicine at McGill and in cardiology and critical care at Harvard, Dr. Lawler is also an active researcher focused on the link between severe infections and cardiovascular disease. Known for his innovative work in clinical trial design, he brings cutting-edge research and compassionate care to Montreal.
Angelica Tombs
French Horn
Angelica Tombs is a highly versatile horn player recognized for her rich sound and adaptability in diverse musical contexts. She first gained recognition in 2012 as one of the winners of the Concerto Competition of the Montreal Youth Symphony Orchestra, performing the first movement of Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 1. From 2010 to 2015, she studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Louis-Philippe Marsolais and Nadia Côté.
From 2015 to 2020, she studied in Germany under renowned instructors Mahir Kalmik, Johannes Dengler, and Casey Rippon while also playing in numerous masterclasses, concerts, and tours across Europe and Asia. In June 2018, she contributed to a CD recording with the C/O Orchestra Berlin released by the BIS label, highlighting her extensive experience in chamber music. Although she was unable to complete her diploma due to the pandemic, she successfully advanced her career as a freelance musician.
Her accolades include a second-place finish in chamber music in the Montreal-based Pentaèdre competition in 2014, the Grand Prix (brass) at the International Music Competition Opus 2021 in Kraków, Poland, and a second place in the International Concerto Competition Busan Maru in 2021. Angelica earned her master’s degree in music at the Université de Montréal in 2022. She currently serves as a musician with the Royal Canadian Air Force (438 ETAH) while actively freelancing in the greater Montreal region.
Since returning to her native city, Angelica has collaborated with many Quebec-based ensembles including Ensemble Obiora, Orchestre FilmHarmonique, Orchestre Philharmonique du Québec, Orchestre symphonique de Drummondville, Orchestre symphonique de l’Estuaire, and Orchestre classique de Montréal. Her versatility and accomplishments establish her as a prominent figure in the music scene, enabling her to thrive in diverse performance settings.
Beyond her musical career, Angelica enjoys sewing, spending quality time with her fiancé, and sharing their home with her three stepchildren and two beloved cats.
